Ralph Vaughan Williams The wasps
Vaughan Williams (1872-1958) verzamelde meer dan 800 folksongs tussen 1903 en 1913 voornamelijk uit Norfolk, Surrey en Sussex. In the Fen country, een symfonische impressie zijn invloeden uit folksongs duidelijk hoorbaar evenals in de Norfolk Rhapsody nr.1. Vaughan Williams gebruikte de thema's van deze volkswijsjes ook als cantus firmus in zijn zettingen voor The English Hymnal.
